About

Claire Stephenson (b.2001) is a British composer whose works range from solo instrumental music to full choir and orchestra. She completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the New England Conservatory of Music under the guidance of Michael Gandolfi. She is currently pursuing her Master of Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, formally under Elinor Armer and now under David Garner.She has premiered chamber works at New England Conservatory’s (NEC) Tuesday Night New Music Concerts; collaborated with NEC’s Liederabend project, creating her art song, Highland Mary; leading to a commission for a concert supported by the Foundation of Chinese Performing Arts in Boston. Now based at the San Francisco Conservatory she has premiered two new art songs as well as a piano solo. She has participated in a masterclass with John Adams and premiered a new Pierrot Ensemble piece in concert with Gabriela Frank. She was named as a finalist in the One Found Sound Emerging Composer Award 2025 for her orchestral piece An Ode to Procrastination, as the runner up in the European Creative Contest for the chamber music section for her piece Cloudland and her choir piece Sappho’s Prayer was performed by KC Vitas at their Shimmer concert in April 2026 and will subsequently be published as part of The Lavender Scores
